So in realizing this community could be a great resource, I am going to start actively trying my best to make some improvements and ensure all members have a place here.

I want to set out some base guidelines, please keep these in mind when reading new posts:

I want to ensure all users are confident in posting here, and I want to ensure all members have free posting access. With no restrictions on topics, please keep in mind not everybody wants to see what you have to say.
Please utilize our livejournal tools, things such as Livejournal Cuts and Livejournal Tags we can ensure everybody is aware of what they're about to see.

With that being said, you as a user in such a community must practice tolerance and respect. Please don't go out of your way to make a fuss, as we have a Zero Tolerance policy on impudence. One chance is all you have; you will have a single opportunity to explain yourself before you're banned.

Please extend invites to friends; the more the merrier!

A post to the Funday Pawpet listeners and crew out there...

I'm sorry that I haven't been able to watch the show at all, but you know Christmas and working longer hours... :p

But anyways, I wanted to let you Funday Pawpets out there, congrats on your (belated) 10th anniversary! You've given me such humor, wit, and a sense of friendship among everyone you've entertained, and I wish you the best years to stay on the internet. Also, thank you for a memorable year back in AC to meet you in public for the first time in my life. I do hope you like the Yappy picture I gave you from the previous Funday Show of the space toilets and have it framed somewhere. XD

And, last: Have yourselves a Merry Christmas, everyone of you! Hope to catch you later on. ^^

Official FPS Program Schedule Changes
[info]yappyfox wrote in [info]pawpet
It is official now.. FPS will officially be switching to 6pm Eastern time beginning Jan 3.

Also with this change, I will no longer be able to broadcast Radio Lawn or Rapid T Rabbit or YapTV.

YapTv may still occur, briefly, but it won't have an official start time, much like it currently does not.

The show will still remain 4 hours, and I know this affects some shows after FPS that have occupied the time after FPS.

I don't know how long I will be stuck to this schedule, but I have exhausted all my options with pleas to whoever I could, but Unions suck, and that's all there is to it.

Sorry to those of you in Europe who now may not be able to watch cuz of the later schedule as well.. I really wish I could have avoided this, but. Bleah...

FurFright 2009 - Gonna Be A Good Night
[info]0r30 wrote in [info]pawpet
For anybody who wanted the video (which I actually waited to debut on the show before I put it on YouTube), here it is in full quality.

As a side note: Yes, I know the song is overplayed. However, I do not run the airwaves, and I do not have direct control over what you get sick of. The people who made a big stink about it and said they were muting the video: not cool. I worked pretty hard on the video, so if you don't like the audio, don't announce that you're muting it. Kind of a rude thing to do.

FPS Start Time Changes.
[info]yappyfox wrote in [info]pawpet
It isn't "Official" Yet, as I am still trying to fight the changes...

But I've been screwed at work on my schedule, and after 19 years, it looks like they are going to make me work on Sundays.

I managed to dodge a second shift bullet which would have effectively cancelled FPS. But working Sunday still is going to put a monkey wrench in the works.

I will probably need to push the start time of FPS to 6pm Eastern Time (one hour later).

I will also have to cancel airing Radio Lawn and Rapid T Rabbit before FPS, as there won't be any way to get things on the air.

Basically I'll have to get off work, and rush home to just barely get on the air for 18:00.

Kind of sucks all around, but this looks like it might be the only way to make this work, at least until I locate a new job where I can get Sundays back off.

This all will take effect sometime in January.

Something silly...
[info]aj_hyena wrote in [info]pawpet
So a friend of mine and I are making up something for a project, and we need to make a bunch of strange "items". These are plays on words or silly things, like a "Trojan Horse of Holding --- now with more space!" or a "Rock of Immortality --- you're immortal... as long as you hold it." or something stupid like that.

So I'm curious to see what you out there in viewerland can come up with to supplement my own ideas. Anyone have any silly or pun-y items in a "Why would you WANT one of these things?" vein?

Just something to do while we wait for Sunday :)

Forums are back online.
[info]thevirtualcat wrote in [info]furaffinity
Thanks to Carenath donating space on his server, the forums are back online.

Now, I will preemptively answer some questions.

  • This wasn't done earlier because I didn't have the data off the old forum server until late, late Sunday night.
  • No, we can't use Carenath's server to bring the mainsite up. The main site is about a thousand times larger than the forums. (Both in terms of disk space and bandwidth requirements.)
  • We have everything we need to install the servers at the new facility. The only concern now is weather related, but that shouldn't be a problem. (Incidentally, did you know that studded tires are illegal in Maryland? This is highly relevant.)

Just in case the noobs haven't been exposed to it yet...

In other news, still waiting on stuff involving a comp - some discussion about getting a new one a few weeks back, but i'm very skeptical about that. Sorry i've been missing the usual shows and haunts the last 13-1/2 weeks as a result. Bleh. :*(~

Good News, Bad News, Good News, Bad News
[info]preyfar wrote in [info]furaffinity
Good News: We're all ready to go on our end. We have the IPs, we've got the rack setup at our new colo. All we need to do is move our servers into the facility, update the IPs and config the DNS. That'll take maybe 30 to 45 minutes.

Bad News: Switch and Data (hey, remember them?) were not able to process our badges in time, so we're not able to get into the colo. Yet. Fuck. You may proceed to queue the "BADGES?! WE DON'T NEED NO STEENKIN' BADGES!" quotes, because... that's the only thing holding us up. THE ONLY THING. Only thing. Yep. That. That thing? That's the only thing. THE. ONLY. THING.

Only thing.

Good News: Net-cat and myself (and maybe Dax) will be meeting at the colo at 5:00PM EST tomorrow to setup, install, configure and bring Fur Affinity online. We had hoped to do this today, but Murphy's Law is a fickle bitch unfortunately the paperwork pushers didn't pushpushpush.

Bad News: I'm out of Cherry Bawls. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Notification System
[info]mhwest wrote in [info]lj_maintenance
**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:
